Thomas Blanchard b. about 1590 Cape of Hague, France. d. 21 March 1654
Melden, MA. son of Pierre Jean Blanchard. m. Agnes Bent 15 May 1637 in Salisbury, England.
There is a well defined tradition that the Blanchards were French Huguenots (Confederate or Oath comrade) who fled from
France about the time of the terrible massacre of St. Bartholomew's Day (1572) or soon after, as they were settled at Andover,
England, as early as 1590. The Huguenots or Protestants saw troublous times in France for more than two hundred years.
Thomas Blanchard was a direct descendant of Alain Blanchard, who was put to death in 1418 by the British at the capture
of Rouen, France.
Thomas Blanchard, came to New England in the ship "Jonathan" from London in the year 1639 with several
children who are assumed from his first wife. His second wife died on the voyage. His will mentioned Mary of Noodles
Island, Boston, MA as the third wife.
He was at Braintree, MA from 1646 to 1650 and again in Charlestown in 1651 fron then on.
